After many months of work, I’m proud to present my latest painting — Last Light.
Last Light is an original artwork created from a reference photo I took while working alongside Kevin Richardson in South Africa in 2024. The image captures Yame, one of the rescued lions, blissfully rolling in a mound of dung. While the original photo was flattened by overcast light, I reimagined the scene with dappled sunlight filtering through trees overhead.
Through many iterations, I worked to bring life and warmth into the composition — balancing rich golden browns in Yame’s fur with cool shadows in the background. The play between warm sunlight and cooler purples and blues adds depth and atmosphere, with a soft focus effect that evokes the presence of distant trees and brush.
This painting was created to feel subtle and magical — a dream-like moment, untouched and unaware. Unlike many of my other wildlife works, which engage directly with the viewer, Last Light invites you to quietly observe a scene that unfolds without needing your presence.
